Woman hit by car, killed near 2nd and Browne

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. -

Police are investigating after an auto vs pedestrian crash in downtown Spokane Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to the intersection of 2nd and Browne around 1:15 p.m. Police on scene say a woman was hit by a car while in a crosswalk at the intersection. The woman was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police later reported that the crash was fatal.

The intersection is expected to be closed for several hours while Spokane Police Traffic Investigators conduct their investigation, gather evidence and interview witnesses. A detour is in place.

Police say the driver involved in the crash is cooperating with police and it does not appear speed or intoxication were factors in the crash.

Preliminary investigation shows that it appears the vehicle was west on 2nd and tried to turn left onto Browne where the woman was crossing the street and was struck.

Police say at this time the crash is not being investigated as a criminal act.
