Mitch Hedberg's widow says we could be hearing the comedy legend again soon

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES -

As far as comedy legends go, Mitch Hedberg is as among the greats. His time was brief, but he definitely made a lasting impression.

Sadly, Hedberg's brilliant comedy was silenced when he died from a drug overdose on March 30, 2005.

But Hedberg's widow, Lynn Shawcroft, recently wrote in The Hollywood Reporter that we could be hearing Mitch again very soon!

Shawcroft said she and Hedberg filmed four of his shows prior to his death, which she says is enough for a "brand-new concert film." In addition to that, Shawcroft said she is in possession of a vault of home-video footage shot by Hedberg himself.

"Mitch was constantly jotting ideas onto paper," Shawcroft told The Hollywood Reporter. "I have boxes and boxes of his notebooks, envelopes stuffed with hotel pads and scribbled-on napkins. I even found an airplane barf bag covered with notes. When he wasn’t writing, he was talking into a microcassette recorder, so I also have boxes of microtapes of him practicing and perfecting his material—material that’s never been heard."

One of Hedberg's shows was already released posthumously called Do You Believe In Gosh? in 2008.

Shawcroft says she's spent the last eight months digitizing a huge archive of unreleased material from Hedberg and although it's unclear exactly what she plans to do with it, she did mention the possibility of an online archive, saying "at some point soon, all of you will be hearing and seeing Mitch again."

I'm more of a dog person, but if there is a place that is willing to pay me to live on an island in Greece and take care of cats, I'll become a feline fanatic.  Well, there is someone offering such a job right now and they claim it's a real opening.  God's Little People Cat Rescue posted on Facebook that they are looking for someone who can look after 55 cats on a little Greek island paradise called Syros.
