Firefighters contain small brush fire north of Fairchild AFB

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -

UPDATE: Fire crews report a small brush fire burning north of Fairchild Air Force Base on Bowie Road has been contained as of Sunday afternoon. Spokane County Fire District 10 reports crews will remain on scene Sunday to mop up and monitor the area for hot spots.

Firefighters are responding to a brush fire north of Fairchild Air Force Base Sunday afternoon.

Crews responded to the 17000 block of Bowie Road for a reported brush fire around 12:30 p.m. It was quickly updated to a second alarm fire and more resources were called to help fight the fire.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources says the Bowie fire was about 3 acres at last report. Crews say the fire is wind-driven. 

There is no word yet whether any evacuation orders are in place for this fire.

DNR says firefighters are working to control the fire from the air and the ground Sunday. Four engines, one hand crew, and three aircraft were on scene Sunday. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Authorities say a baby girl found crawling across a busy New Jersey street was unharmed after a neighbor and passing motorist came to her aid. The child was spotted around 5 p.m. Saturday in Lakewood, in southern New Jersey. The motorist, 41-year-old Cory Cannon of Eatontown, told the Asbury Park Press he saw the girl on Joe Parker Road and initially thought she was a toy.
