SPOKANE, Wash. -

UPDATE:

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Athos J. Turner of Glendale, Arizona.

Turner was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained during the crash.

Charges are pending.

Previous Coverage:

A man fleeing from police early Friday morning crashed his car at 5th and Maple then took off on foot.

Troopers say the man was being pursued by law enforcement on I-90 , at one point reaching 115 miles per hour. Due to the dangerous speeds, the pursuit was terminated, but the suspect kept fleeing at a high rate of speed. Eventually, the suspect lost control while getting off eastbound I-90 at the Maple Street exit.

Witnesses said the suspect lost control of the car, rolled it and took out a power pole before coming to rest in a lot near 5th and Maple. Witnesses immediately responding to the crash said the man told them there was a child inside the car. There was no child inside the car. Law enforcement believes the suspect said this to create a diversion and flee from the scene.

The suspect took off on foot and was quickly located by police and taken into custody.

Troopers say the suspect, who has not yet been identified, is facing multiple charges, including DUI.

The intersection is expected to be closed until around 9;30 am while crews clean up and law enforcement wraps up their investigation.
