Capitol Hill reporter confronts Bush on IraqPosted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A longtime reporter on Capitol Hill initiated somewhat of a tense debate with President Bush during a news conference on Tuesday.
Helen Thomas confronted Bush about his reasons for going to war in Iraq. The President repeatedly told Thomas not to interrupt while he explained himself.
Thomas: "Why did you really want to go to war, what was your real reason? You've said it wasn't oil, Israel..what was it?"
Bush: "I didn't want war. To assume I wanted war is flat wrong. No president wants war. Simply not true. My attitude about defense of this country changed on September 11th" - (Helen keeps interrupting Pres. Bush) - "The world said disarm, disclose or face serious consequences and the world is safer for it."
