Arlin Jordin guilty on both counts

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A jury found Arlin Jordin guilty of both Second Degree Rape and Indecent Liberties.

The 58-year-old Spokane landlord never denied having sex with the victim but has said all along it was consensual. The jury disagreed. He walked into the courtroom with a smile on his face, looking confident with family members and his attorney by his side. Minutes later Jordin learned he wouldn't be walking out of the courtroom a free man. He showed no emotion as the jury found him guilty.

Prosecutor John Love convinced the jury that Jordin used some type of drug and alcohol combination to incapacitate and rape a 36-year-old Spokane woman who came to see him about renting an apartment back in November of 2004. Love says it was a tough case and he's pleased the jury didn't buy Jordin's claim that the sex was consensual.

"Not only are the 'he said, she said' cases difficult, they're even more difficult when you have someone who may be under the influence of a substance without their knowledge, which affects their memory," said Love.

Jordin's attorney Bevan Maxey expressed disappointment in the verdict, saying the evidence clearly showed no drug was every used. He also took issue with the judge allowing three other women to testify that Jordin did the same thing to them years ago.

Outside the court, it was clear Jordin didn't see the verdict coming, and as he was lead away to be booked into jail. Jordin promised an appeal.
