Bush: Temporary-worker plan would reduce stress on border securityPosted: Updated:
WHITE HOUSE - President Bush says a temporary-worker program would go a long way toward reducing pressure on border security. In his prime-time address to the nation, the president again voiced his support for a guest worker program for foreigners. Bush says it would help keep people from risking their lives to sneak across the border. And he says it would add to the nation's security by providing an orderly way to track immigrant workers.
He says every worker who applies for the program would be required to pass criminal background checks. He also says it would give the nation an economic boost by providing needed workers and making them lawful taxpayers.
