COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Reflecting on the past several months of their lives, the mother's of mark McKenzie and Brenda Groene say the past year has been a living hell.

KHQ Local News Reporter Ana Cabrera recently interviewed Lee McKenzie Wood and Darlene Torres. They spoke about their son and daughter's lives, life after their brutal murder, and what they hope for in the future.

The two families put out a joint statement to the public on Sunday, saying the murders of Mark, Brenda, Slade and Dylan are still fresh in their minds.

"People always say time makes it easier," the statement reads. "I disagree. You never get over something like this. We have learned to take it one day at a time."

The statement says the families are grateful to have Shasta as a constant reminder "of how great those we lost were".

The statement concludes by saying "We have a sky full of angels to watch over us, and you couldn't ask for a better guardian angels. We were truly blessed by having them in our lives, here on earth. Someday we shall meet again."
