Duncan allegedly told police he wanted to be caughtPosted: Updated:
COEUR D'ALENE, ID. - Shortly after his arrest in the company of Shasta Groene, registered sex offender Joseph Edward Duncan bragged to police that they would not have caught him if he had not wanted to be caught.
Duncan made numerous comments to law enforcement officers shortly after he was booked into the Kootenai County Jail early the morning of July 2. New court documents say he told police he was smart enough that they would not have caught him, but it had to end.
Duncan is charged with killing two adults and a 13-year-old boy in their Coeur d'Alene area home in May 2005 so he could kidnap Shasta and Dylan Groene for sex. Shasta was rescued when she was spotted by people in a Denny's restaurant last July 2. The body of Dylan was found at a primitive Montana campsite where Duncan allegedly held the children for seven weeks.
Duncan is scheduled to go on trial in October.
