South Idaho water users face shut offs under new orderPosted: Updated:
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - About 13-hundred groundwater users in southern Idaho have been ordered to give up water owed to surface water users since 2005 or face having their own water shut off.
State Water Resources Director Karl Dreher on Thursday ordered groundwater users from American Falls to Thousand Springs to supply the Twin Falls Canal Company with 27-thousand acre-feet of water by July 9th.
He says that's how much water they have left to return from 2005, when they were ordered to return nearly 28-thousand acre feet.
Groundwater users with rights since May 27th, 1979, could see their right curtailed if Dreher's order is not met.
