SPOKANE, Wash. - Organizers hope they've created a hit with the first ever Sand in the City competition in downtown Spokane.
Four teams of 12 to 15 students from area high schools are creating works of art at Wall and Riverside in the downtown area. Each team was trained for three days and has the assistance of a professional architecht and master sand sculptor. The winner will be announced live on KHQ Local News at 5.
The competition was organized by the Spokane Lilac Festival. The organization expects up to 40,000 people to stop by and see the displays.
On Saturday, master sculptors will build a demo masterpiece.
