Seattle Mayor: sale of Sonics a 'disappointment'Posted: Updated:
SEATTLE- Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels calls the sale of the SuperSonics a "disappointment." Nickels says the city's offers regarding the team's relationship with Key Arena and the Seattle Center remain on the table, and he looks forward to sitting down with the new owners to see what can be worked out to keep the Sonics and the Seattle Storm in town.
Governor Chris Gregoire says she, too, is disappointed the teams are being sold, but is encouraged the new owners say they want to keep the teams in Washington.
Disputes over the Sonics' Key Arena lease, and over who would pay for a new or remodeled stadium, were driving factors in the team owners' decision to sell.
