Cease-fire between Israel, Hezbollah to take effect 1 a.m. ESTPosted: Updated:
UNITED NATIONS - U-N Secretary-General Kofi Annan says a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah is scheduled to go into effect Monday at 1 a-m Eastern time. Annan made the announcement after speaking with the prime ministers of Israel and Lebanon.
Word of the scheduled cease-fire comes a day after the U-N Security Council adopted a resolution seeking a "full cessation" of hostilities. The resolution, drafted by France and the United States, authorizes 15,000 U-N peacekeepers to help a similar number of Lebanese troops take control of southern Lebanon as Israeli forces withdraw.
