Dangerous Highway: officials push for safety improvements to U-S-Highway TwoPosted: Updated:
SKYKOMISH, Wash. (AP) -
Officials have long suggested that U-S- Highway Two through the Cascades is one of the state's most dangerous highways, so word of another fatal crash isn't taking them by surprise.
Two drivers were killed in a head-on crash east of Skykomish yesterday -- the same day the U-S-Two Safety Coalition was meeting with state and local officials to discuss a one-point-three (m) million dollar safety improvement study to be completed by next spring.
Transportation Department figures show that 43 people have died in accidents on the two-lane highway between Everett and Skykomish since 1999. Sultan Police Chief Fred Walser says he wants to know how many more people have to die before improvements are made.
