Operation Mountain FuryPosted: Updated:
KABUL, Afghanistan--The U.S. led coalition has launched another offensive against Taliban rebels in Afghanistan. It's being called "Operation Mountain Fury" and is being carried out by seven-thousand coalition troops in five provinces in central and eastern Afghanistan. The two-star American general in charge of the operation says the mission is not only to defeat insurgents but to continue economic growth and development. And he says it will continue, quote, "until the conditions of bringing security, construction and growth are met." As he puts it, "The Afghan people are tired of war. Mountain Fury is part of a series of what the military says are coordinated operations, including the NATO-led "Operation Medusa," which the military says has killed hundreds of militants in the south.
