More Debris By ShuttlePosted: Updated:
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FL--Astronauts spotted three more pieces of mysterious space debris near space shuttle "Atlantis," but NASA says so far, an inspection of the critical heat shield hasturned up no problems. Mission managers say based on the inspection so far, there's nothing that would interfere with a landing set for tomorrow morning in Florida. The crew reported three objects, one that was a reflective foil or cloth, as well as an object that looked like a small ring. Astronauts speculated that it might be debris from the spacewalks earlier in the mission that is just near the orbiter. NASA delayed a landing attempt today so that the crew could use the robot arm to carefully inspect the thermal protection system. But officials say it's not uncommon to spot small objects in the vicinity of the shuttle.
