Opponents of property rights Initiative 933 raise more moneyPosted: Updated:
OLYMPIA, Wash.- Opponents of property rights Initiative 933 have raised nearly three (m) million dollars. Public disclosure records show the top contributor is the Nature Conservancy at half a (m) million dollars.
Supporters have raised about one (m) million dollars, with about a third of that coming from New York libertarian Howard Rich.
The Nature Conservancy usually spends its money buying land, but state and national groups feel the initiative is a threat to habitat protection. I-933 would require government to pay property owners for the cost of land use restrictions -- or waive the restrictions.
