LOCATIONS: Voter Service Centers in Spokane CountyPosted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane County recently acquired equipment to help persons with disabilities vote independently. The Disability Accessiblity Voting Units (DAUs) are called AutoMarks and have features to assist voters who may have difficulty seeing traditional ballots, or those with dexterity or cognitive disabilities.
The AutoMarks feature touchscreens and tactile buttons which the voter can use to register his or her vote. There are also inputs to accomodate other assistive devices. For persons unable to read the screen there is an audio mode in which a voter uses headphones and the races and issues on the ballot are repeated as the voter navigates through the ballot.
The AutoMarks are available at the Elections Office at 1033 W. Gardner Avenue through the General Election. There will also be AutoMarks at each of the Voter Service Centers on Election Day ONLY. Organizations providing services to persons with disabilities may contact the Elections Office to schedule a time when an AutoMark can be made available at the organization's facility. Phone 477-2320 during regular business hours.
