WSU 77 - GU 67
Final @ Friel Court
PULLMAN, Wash. - Derrick Low scored 22 points as the Washington State Cougars upset 18th-ranked Gonzaga, 77-67. Daven Harmeling scored 20 points for Washington State (8-1) who is off to its best start since the 1996-97 season.
The win broke the Cougars' seven-game losing streak to Gonzaga. Josh Heytvelt lead GU with 22 points. Derek Raivio added 21 as the Bulldogs fell to 8-2. Washington State trailed 66-63 with less than 4 minutes left, but then outscored Gonzaga 14-to-1 for the win. The run included a pair of clutch 3-pointers by Harmeling.
The game at the 11,600-seat Friel Court in Pullman was sold out to the general public. That is something that rarely happens in the eastern Washington college town. As of Monday afternoon, there were about 800 student guest passes available. The crowd was expected to be the largest at Friel Court since February 11, 1995 when 11,463 watched the UCLA.
