Seahawks fail to clinch playoff spot in loss to San Francisco

SEATTLE - The Seahawks failed to clinch playoff spot Thursday night by losing 24-14 to the San Francisco 49ers at Qwest Field.

Matt Hasselbeck threw for 220 yards in the wind and rain, but also threw two interceptions.  The 49ers Alex Smith proved to be more effective, both on the ground and through the air. Smith threw for 163 yards, but also ran 6 times for 33 yards, including an 18 yard touchdown.

Frank Gore ran 144 yards on 29 runs for San Francisco, scoring a 20 yard touchdown in the 4th quarter.  He was also the team's second-leading receiver. 

The Seahawks were favored to beat San Francisco to win the NFC West.
