ATLANTA (AP) _ The "Godfather of Soul" is dead. James Brown was 73 when he died early this morning in an Atlanta hospital. His agent says he'd been suffering from pneumonia, but the cause of death isn't certain yet. Brown was planning to perform New Year's Eve at a New York City club. Just three days ago, Brown was at his annual toy giveaway in Augusta, Georgia. His longtime friend, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, says by dying on Christmas Day, Brown was "dramatic to the end." Jackson says Brown will be "news all over the world today" -- adding that he "would have it no other way." The self-described "hardest working man in show business" had a long string of hits, including "I Got You" and "Out of Sight."
