Choppers join search for missing police volunteer

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - Two helicopters are being used today in the search for 81-year-old George L. Kubes, a volunteer with Spokane Police who hasn't been seen since Tuesday morning. The helicopters were supplied by the U.S. Border Patrol and the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

Searches by Officers, Deputies and volunteers, in cars and on foot, have so far turned up no trace of Kubes who was last seen leaving his Five-Mile area home for a Tuesday morning doctor appointment.

Agencies have received at least six tips from from as far away as Grant County and Sandpoint, from citizens who thought they might've seen Kubes and his car.

A WSP Trooper responded to the Grant County call but the car in question had already left the area.  Local Police responded to the possible sighting in Sandpoint but it was determined that the man was someone else.

Kubes was an engineer for the Great Northern Railroad, retiring just before it merged with others to become BNSF.  He has been a Spokane Police Senior Volunteer for two years.

It's not known what clothing Kubes was wearing when he left home. He's 5'9" tall, weighs 190-pounds, is bald and has blue eyes. He left home in his red 1995 Geo Metro, Washington license 210SOE.

Anyone who thinks they've seen Kubes or his car is asked to call 911.

PULLMAN, Wash. - It's a moment that proudly lives in WSU football history.  September 28, 2013.  WSU is losing to Stanford. The score isn't important, but let's just say it was a lot. Ok, fine. It was 41-3 early in the 4th quarter.
