LOS ANGELES, Cali. - Washington State missed a tying 3-pointer at the buzzer tonight as the Cougars lost a close one to top-ranked UCLA 55-52, in the Pac-10 opener for both teams.

Darren Collison and Arron Afflalo scored 13 points each and Josh Shipp added 11 to lead the Bruins, who are now 50-1 all time against the Cougars in Los Angeles.

Derrick Low led the Cougars with 14 points and Nikola Koprivica added 12, but he missed a tying 3-pointer as time ran out. Kyle Weaver had 10 rebounds for WSU.

UCLA's fifth consecutive win over Washington State didn't come easily after trailing by 10 points in the first half.

The Cougars' deliberate style frustrated the Bruins, who survived despite shooting just 33 percent from the field. UCLA dominated the boards, 40-28.

Neither team led by more than two points during a 6-minute stretch late in the second half.

Washington State is now 0-25 all time against top-ranked teams and 0-17 against the Bruins.
