Al-Sadr aide arrested in BaghdadPosted: Updated:
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) _ A U-S-Iraqi military operation in Baghdad has reportedly captured a top aide to radical anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
American commanders say only that a high-level leader of an illegal armed group was captured Friday during a raid led by a special unit of Iraq's army.
An aide to al-Sadr identifies the man as the cleric's media director. Al-Sadr's powerful militia has been blamed in terrorist strikes on Sunnis, and a crackdown has been a key U-S demand on Iraq's government.
There's no word yet on whether Friday's operation was ordered or sanctioned by President Nouri al-Malaki.
Al-Sadr has been one of his key backers.
