SPOKANE, Wash. - West Coast Conference scoring leader Derek Raivio was limited to seven points on 1-4 shooting, but the Gonzaga Bulldogs won their 49th consecutive home game by beating University of San Diego 91-82 tonight.
The Zags improved their record to 6-1 in the WCC and, 15-7 overall. The Bulldogs shot season bests of 67 percent from the field and 73 percent on 3-point field goals.
Jeremy Pargo and Matt Bouldin each scored 18 points, Josh Heytvelt 15 and Sean Mallon 11 for Gonzaga. It beat the Toreros for the ninth time in a row.
Gonzaga led 42-34 at halftime, but led only 56-52 before Micah Downs sank three 3-pointers in a three-minute span. That helped push the Zags' lead to 67-58 with eight minutes left.
Those were the only shots taken by Downs in his fifth game with the Spokane school since recovering from foot surgery. He's a transfer from Kansas.
