Season over for WSU women

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The season is over for the Washington State women's basketball team, after the Cougars lost to UCLA Friday night, 72-58, in a first-round game of the Pac-10 conference tournament.

Marisa Stotler scored 14 points to lead the Cougars, who finish the season with a 5-and-24 record. They have yet to win a game in six conference tournaments.

Julie Benz, Washington State's all-time leading rebounder with 899, reached 1000 points for her career by making a pair of free throws with 5:27 remaining in the game.

Lindsey Pluimer scored 15 points and Noelle Quinn added 14 to lead the Bruins.

The Bruins opened an 18-point lead midway through the second half and held on for the double-digit victory. The Cougars never got closer than 10 points.
