So you're not supposed to take history into consideration when analyzing the NCAA field. Ha! The best part of the NCAA Tournament is watching all of the experts' theories go up in smoke and watching the wallflower in the office take home the pool money. >>

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga got a higher seed and will play closer to home than many experts expected after the selection committee awarded the Bulldogs a 10 seed and a first round game in Sacramento.

The Zags will take on seven seed Indiana out of the Big Ten on Thursday, March 15th.  Kelvin Sampson, who became Indiana's head coach in 2006, after Mike Davis Stepped down, coaches the Hoosiers. Sampson was named national coach of the year twice while coaching Oklahoma in the Big 12, and he has a load of NCAA experience leading the Sooners to 11 tournament appearances, including three Sweet 16, two Elite Eight, and one Final Four.

The Hoosiers finished third in a very tough Big 10 Conference which boasts two teams, Ohio State and Wisconsin which were ranked #1 at one point in the season.  Indiana lost in the Big 10 Tournament quarterfinals to Illinois in overtime to finish the year 20 and 10.

Indiana has a balanced veteran team led by 6' 9" Junior Forward D.J. White who's average nearly 14 points and 9 rebounds per game.  White's teammate 6' 4" senior guard Roderick Wilmont is averaging nearly 13 points and 6 rebounds per game.

Indiana has big wins this year against Wisconsin (ranked #2 at the time) and Michigan State, (ranked #24 at the time) and losses to Duke (ranked #10 at the time) and Ohio State (ranked #6 at the time.)

Indiana's RPI is currently .59 and has the 47th strongest strength of schedule in the NCAA.  Gonzaga's RPI is .57 and has the 82nd strongest strength of schedule.
