Cougars 70 - Oral Roberts 54: WSU advances to 2nd round
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Cougs have beaten 14th-seed Oral Roberts University 70-54 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game was WSU's first appearance in the tourney since 1994. Their 26-1 record ties school record set by the 1941 team that finished as national runner-up.
After winning their first NCAA tournament game in 24 years, the third-seeded Washington State Cougars will face sixth-seeded Vanderbilt in the second round of the East Regional on Saturday at 2:55 p.m. at Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.
Thursday the Cougars got 19 points, a career-tying five blocked shots and six rebounds from reserve Ivory Clark in their 70-54 victory over 14th-seeded Oral Roberts in a first-round game.
Taylor Rochestie had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Kyle Weaver added 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Washington State.
In improving its record to 26-7, Washington State shot 59% per cent and made only one turnover in the second half. The Cougars trailed 28-26 at halftime.
