Holiday traffic delays bridge projectPosted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash-- Because of Easter weekend traffic, the Transportation Department says it will wait until next week to start moving an oversize truck from Spokane to Gig Harbor. The truck trailer will take up two lanes, carrying a 100 ton expansion joint for the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The truck has been held near Spokane since mid March because of its weight. The load has been redistributed on its trailer with 21 axles. The trip across the state to Gig Harbor could take as long as four days. A second expansion joint from the Midwest will require a similar rig to get a state permit. The new bridge is expected to be open to traffic later this summer.
