Assistant coach and recruit leave UI men's basketball team

Posted: Updated:

MOSCOW, ID - The University of Idaho is losing an assistant basketball coach and it appears a top recruit is leaving the program, too. Team officials say assistant coach DeMarlo Slocum resigned Thursday to take a similar job at Colorado State.

The school also says it is releasing Andre McFarland from his letter of intent. McFarland is a 6"5 forward from Slocum's hometown, Las Vegas. McFarland had initially committed to the University of Southern California, where Slocum worked as director of basketball operations.

Vandals head coach George Pfeifer says the departures are disappointing, but understandable considering the opportunities for both.
