E-mail sent to Spokane Public Schools faculty membersPosted: Updated:
The following is the E-mail sent from superintendent Brian Benzel to Spokane Public school faculty members.
Today, I have some personal news to share with you. I recently learned that I have prostate cancer. Later this week, I will have surgery to address this disease. This cancer was detected early, so every indication from my physician is that my recovery will be complete.
I will be on medical leave until June 11. During my absence, Nancy Stowell, Mark Anderson and Barb Wright will guide the district's work. I am confident in their leadership and look forward to returning for the end of the school year.
Knowing you will keep our focus on students and ending the year with positive energy and expectations gives me added assurance as I prepare for surgery. Thank you for your devotion to this important work; it is appreciated.Brian
