Man Sets Roommate on FirePosted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash.-- Police responded to the 7800 block of East Nora after receiving a call about a man on fire Monday night.
An investigation by the Sheriff's major crime detective's revealed 26-year-old Dominic Melaas entered his roommate's bedroom and began assaulting him.
Detectives say Melaas punched and kicked the victim in the head and body, smashed him in the torso with a large piece of furniture, hit him in the head with a portable space heater, and then poured gasoline on the victim and set him on fire.
Melaas was booked into the Spokane County Jail on felony counts of First Degree Arson and First Degree Assault.
The victim was airlifted to a Seattle burn center and is undergoing treatment for burns to 10 percent of his body.
