Weaver out early with back stiffness

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO, Cali. - Seattle Mariners right-hander Jeff Weaver lasted only four innings in his return from the disabled list Saturday because of stiffness in his lower back.

Weaver was activated from the 15-day disabled list to start Saturday night's game against the San Diego Padres.

He's now listed as day-to-day. He was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career on May 11th because of shoulder tendinitis. Weaver came into the game with an 0-6 record, and allowed two runs in his four innings.

To make room for Weaver, right-hander John Huber was placed on the disabled list with a right forearm strain.
