Spokane player shares opening round lead in Western Amateur CompPosted: Updated:
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. Spokane's Alex Prugh shot a 5-under-par 65 Wednesday at Benton Harbor, Michigan, to share the opening round lead in the 2007 Western Amateur golf tournament.
He was tied with 18-year-old Rickie Fowler, of Murrietta, California, the 2005 Western Junior champion. The 22-year-old Prugh's round featured six birdies, including a 40-foot birdie putt.
As a senior at University of Washington in 2007, Prugh was a first-team all-Pac-10 selection.
The tournament continues with 18 more holes today followed by 36 holes Friday. The top 16 finishers qualify for match play that begins Saturday. The championship match will be held on Sunday.
