Seattle mayor still willing to talk with Sonics owner
SEATTLE - Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels says he's still willing to talk with Sonics owner Clay Bennett about keeping the team in the city.
Nickels told KIRO radio, "If he wants to stay in Seattle and wants to sit down in good faith, there are ways to make that happen." But the mayor says if Bennett's intention is to move the team, "it's time we found that out."
Bennett issued a statement Thursday saying if the city wants to keep the team in Key Arena, then they have nothing to talk about. He says the arena at the Seattle Center is not an option.
Nickels says the city won't let Bennett out of a lease that runs to 2010.
Bennett has said he'll start the process of moving the franchise on October 31st, unless leaders in Washington help him build a new arena.
