SEATTLE, Wash. - Daisuke Matsuzaka matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts over seven innings as the Boston Red Sox beat Seattle Saturday, 4-3. The win snaps a 9-game losing streak against the Mariners.
Jason Varitek hit the go-ahead 2-run double in the fourth inning. David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez also had RBIs to help Matsuzaka improve to 13-8.
Jarrod Wasburn dropped to 8-8 with the loss and Jonathan Papelbon notched his 25th save.
Adrian Beltre and Yuniesky Betancourt homered for the Mariners, who trail the AL West-leading Angels by 2.5 games.
