Ian Gac's homers help Indians defeat Volcanoes 6-2

SPOKANE, Wash. - Just 24 hours after losing to Salem-Keizer, the Indians turned the tables on the "Best Team Ever" as Ian Gac launched two home runs and helped Spokane even the five-game series with a 6-2 victory. That was the third time this season that Gac had a multi-homer game, with two of those games coming against the Volcanoes.

"This is what we try to stress to the players, that every day is a new day," said Spokane Indians manager Tim Hulett, Sr.

Like Friday, Salem-Keizer got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning off a sacrifice fly. But then the game took a turn for the worst for the Volcanoes. Spokane starter Derek Holland managed to get out his first-inning jam by striking out the last batter of the inning and then went on to pick up the win by going five innings with five Ks.

The Indians opened the offensive floodgates in the second inning as they rattled off five consecutive hits and scored four runs. Gac started things with a shot over the left field wall for his ninth home run of the year. Steve Marquardt doubled to left and was brought home with an RBI double by Tim Rodriguez. Then Victor Barrios singled, advancing T-Rod to 3rd. Johan Yan hit a line-drive single which drove home Rodriguez and then a throwing error by the Volcanoes allowed Barrios to score and put Spokane up 4-1.

Spokane loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth for Renny Osuna, who singled to left field to drive in one run.

Ryan Falcon provided excellent middle relief going three innings, giving up only a single hit against the best batting team in the league, and did not issue a single walk.

Gac went yard again in the eighth with a towering homer over the left field fence to give Spokane the 6-2 lead. With ten home runs on the season, Gac now leads the Northwest League in long balls.

The Spokane Indians will be back in action tomorrow for Baseball Card Night. For tickets, contact the Spokane Indians Ticket Office at 509-535-2922 or order online at www.spokaneindiansbaseball.com.
