Mariners 13 - Orioles 8, complete sweep

Posted: Updated:

BALTIMORE Md. - In hot Baltimore, the Seattle Mariners were sizzling Thursday night. They put on another offensive show at the expense of the Orioles, getting three hits and three RBIs apiece from Ichiro Suzuki and Yuniesky Betancourt in a 13-8 victory.

Jose Guillen homered for the Mariners. They scored 31 runs on 49 hits in their first three-game sweep in Baltimore since September 2000. Seattle moved one game ahead of Detroit and 1½ games ahead of idle New York in the AL wild-card race.

Betancourt singled home the tying run in the fourth inning and drove in the go-ahead run in a five-run sixth that put the Mariners in control. He went 17-for-35 this season against Baltimore.

Suzuki had an exceptional series, getting three hits and scoring twice in each game.

Mariners rookie Adam Jones scored four runs.

Left-hander Horacio Ramirez improved his record to 7-3, allowing seven runs in five-plus innings for his first win on the road in six starts.

Left-hander George Sherrill got five outs for his second career save and first this season. The Mariners took the season series from the Orioles 7-2.

Before the game, The Mariners acquired left-hander John Parrish from the Orioles in a trade for minor league outfielder Sebastian Boucher and a player to be named or cash.

The Mariners open a three-game series Friday night in Chicago against the White Sox. They'll start left-hander Jarrod Washburn against Javier Vazquez. Washburn has an 8 and 8 record, with a 4.18 ERA, while Vazquez is 9 and 6, with a 3.64 ERA.
