Seahawks sign defensive tacklePosted: Updated:
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks today signed veteran defensive tackle Howard Green to take the roster spot of Chuck Darby, who was lost for the season with a torn patella tendon in his right knee in a home loss to New Orleans on Sunday night.
Darby has been placed on injured reserve, meaning his season is over.
The 28-year-old Green has played in 19 career games, with 12 starts, since being drafted in the sixth round with the 190th pick in the 2002 NFL draft by the Houston Texans. He also has been with New Orleans, Miami and Minnesota.
Rookie Brandon Mebane, a third-round draft pick from California who has played in all six games this season, will start Sunday when the Seahawks (3-3) play St. Louis at Qwest Field.
Green will be a reserve lineman.
