The 2007 Top 25 Preseason Coaches' Poll was announced early Friday morning, and two local teams are in the top 15.
The Washington State University Cougars are ranked number 10 in the poll, just ahead of Duke and just behind Indiana. WSU finished last year at number 17. Insiders say that the Cougars have been growing into a Pac-10 power and have an experienced team that includes Guard's Derrick Low and Kyle Weaver and Foward's Daven Harmeling and Robbie Cowgill. Their opening game is November 9th against Eastern Washington, and you can see that game here on KHQ at 6:30pm.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are ranked number 14 in the poll, just ahead of Texas A & M and just behind Oregon. Last year, Gonzaga finished the season unranked. Insiders say that Sean Mallon and Derek Raivio are gone, but the Bulldogs should still finish the year on top in the West Coast Conference with the return of Forward Josh Heytvelt and Guard's Matt Bouldin and Jeremy Pargo. Their opening game is November 11th against Montana, and you can see that game on KHQ as well, it airs at 1:00pm.
Rounding out the top five teams are, in order of first to fifth, North Carolina, UCLA, Memphis, Kansas, and Georgetown.
