SPOKANE, Wash. - Austin Daye is making a fast impression on Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball fans.
The 6-foot-9 freshman from Woodridge High School in Irvine, California, came off the bench to score 18 points in 23 minutes to lead the Zags to an 80-43 rout over Idaho tonight in Spokane.
The son of former NBA player Darren Daye made 3-of-5 shots from the floor and was 12-for-16 from the free-throw line.
Jeremy Pargo added 14 points and Matt Bouldin 12 as Gonzaga won despite 18 turnovers in a sloppy game. They start in Gonzaga's backcourt.
Gonzaga outscored the Vandals 44-13 in the second half in improving its record to 2-0.
Forward Darin Nagle, who scored 17 points in a season-opening win for Idaho, fouled out with no points and no rebounds midway through the second half.
Brandon Brown led the Vandals with 12 points, while Trevor Morris had 10.
