SPOKANE, Wash. - Sixth-ranked Washington State will put the highest ranking in team history on the line Friday at Baylor in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.
Baylor (5-0) is off to its best start since 2001-02. And Washington State coach Tony Bennett doesn't think moving from No. 9 to No. 6 on the latest Top 25 will help his team much.
Still, he acknowledges that polls have a strong symbolic value, especially for a team that hasn't made many appearances on the Top 25 until recently.
Washington State (6-0) beat Montana, Mississippi Valley State and Air Force to win its own holiday tournament last weekend. Baylor should pose a more difficult challenge.
