TACOMA, Wash. - Taylor Eglet found Jordan Hanson for a 51-yard touchdown with just over a minute left Saturday night as Lewis & Clark of Spokane beat Bothell 21-14 for its first state title in Class 4A football.
Facing second-and-4 at their own 49, Eglet rolled out to his left and just before reaching the sideline, floated the pass to Hanson, who caught it at the Bothell 15, stayed in bounds and sprinted into the end zone.
Bothell got near midfield on its final drive, but Levi Taylor intercepted a Johnny Hekker pass at the Tigers' 38 in the closing seconds to clinch the victory.
Lewis & Clark's Alex Shaw set a 4A title game record with 37 carries for 176 yards and a 9-yard touchdown run.
Until this year, Lewis & Clark had not won a playoff game since 1978. But the Tigers dispatched Richland, Woodinville, Inglemoor and Edmonds-Woodway, before knocking off the Cougars.
Bothell lost in the state title game for the second straight year, losing to Oak Harbor in last year's 4A championship game.
