Fire forces Monte Carlo evacuations on Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS - The Monte Carlo hotel-casino was evacuated on the Las Vegas Strip because of a fire that broke out on the roof Friday. Huge crowds formed to watch the fire and traffic on the Las Vegas Strip was gridlocked as streets were blocked off around the hotel.

The three-alarm fire spread from the center section of the hotel across the roof line, sending flames and plumes of black pouring out from a rooftop of the resort.

The Monte Carlo Resort & Casino has more than 3,000 guest rooms and opened in June of 1996.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, but ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
