4A Tournament: Lewis & Clark girls beat Puyallup

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Brittany Kennedy scored 10 points and two-time defending champ Lewis and Clark overcame a sluggish first half to beat Puyallup 46-27 Wednesday in the first-round of the Class 4A girls state basketball tournament

The Tigers (26-0), looking to become the first 4A girls basketball team in state history to three-peat, led just 16-9 at the half and shot just 25 percent from the field. The Tigers heated up in the second half, shooting 50 percent (13 of 26) to pull away. Kennedy was the only Tiger in double-figures. Lewis & Clark got scoring from 10 different players in the win.

The Vikings (18-8) failed to take advantage of the Tigers' first-half shooting woes, connecting on just three of 19 shots. Puyallup ended up shooting just 24.4 percent for the game (10-for-41). Danielle Moore led Puyallup with nine points and Tabitha Tomlinson added eight. The Vikings were also plagued by 26 turnovers.
