4A Tournament: Ferris boys beat Garfield

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -  Jeff Minnerly scored 20 points and DeAngelo Casto scored 17 to go with 10 rebounds and six blocks as defending champ Ferris rolled to an easy 68-39 win over Garfield Wednesday in the first round of the Class 4A boys tournament.

The Saxons (26-0), who returned all five starters from last year's title team, won for the 55th straight time.

On a day when a few favorites had already fallen, Ferris didn't falter.

The 6-foot-8 Casto was a force on defense as Garfield shot just 30 percent from the field (16-for-53). Jared Karstetter added 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals for Ferris.

The Bulldogs (17-8) were led by the 16 points of Tony Wroten. DeAndre Taylor added 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press.  All Rights Reserved.)
