S.C. - The Washington State Cougars drew the 4th seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament and will face the Winthrop Eagles, the 13th seed, on Thursday in Denver, CO.
Winthrop defeated UNC Asheville last Saturday to win its fourth consecutive Big South Conference title, and it's eight in the last ten years. The Eagles come into their contest with the Cougars at 22-11 on the year.
Winthrop is led by senior guard Michael Jenkins, who averages 14.3 points per game and scored 33 in the Big South championship game. Senior forward Taj McCullough is second on the team in scoring, at 11.5 points per game.
The Eagles lost to Gonzaga in the opening round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament, 74-64. They also played in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament in Spokane.
