WHL Playoffs: Chiefs drop game one to Vancouver

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs suffered their first loss of the post-season with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Vancouver Giants on Friday night in the Spokane Arena.

The Giants have taken a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference Semi-Finals with game two on Sunday night in Spokane.

Vancouver went 2-6 on the power play and scored twice in the second and third periods. Their first goal came on a redirection of a Lance Bouma shot by Spencer Machacek in front of Dustin Tokarski at 1:34of the second. Evander Kane's wrap around on the power play at 17:23 made it 2-0.

An early goal by Mario Bliznak at 3:18 of the third pushed the Vancouver advantage to 3-0. Spokane pulled within one on a five-on-three goal by Trevor Glass. The 19-year-old defenseman's slap shot from the slot was assisted by Mitch Wahl and Drayson Bowman. The final tally came off the stick of Michal Repik at 10:47 as the puck bounced high in the air and past Tokarski for a 4-1 lead. Spokane outhshot Vancouver 31-27.

Sunday night's game time is scheduled for 6:00 and the Chiefs office will be open on Saturday at 9:00 am.
