WHL Playoffs: Spokane 3 - Vancouver 2
SPOKANE, Wash. - Tyler Johnson's first goal of the playoffs gave the Spokane Chiefs a 3-2 victory in game three of their best of seven playoff series with the Vancouver Giants Wednesday night in Vancouver, BC.
Neither team scored in the first period as Vancouver outshot the Chiefs 7-5 in the period. Both teams failed to score on two power play chances in the stanza as well.
Spokane's Ondrej Roman's 4th goal of the playoffs from David Rutherford and Judd Blackwater at 1:36 of the second period gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Vancouver's Casey Pierro-Zabotel would tie the game at 2:50 of the second. Rutherford would then deflect a Roman shot at 12:42 of the period to give Spokane a 2-1 lead. Mike Piluso would then even up the game at 2 at 17:48 of the period on a goal in which Chiefs goalie Dustin Tokaraski appeared to be interfered on the play.
Johnson's game winner came at 5:48 of the third period as he poked a rebound from behind Giant goal tender Tyson Sexsmith for his first goal of the playoffs. Levko Koper and Stephen Ulmer picked up the assists as Spokane took a two games to one lead in the best of seven series. Dustin Tokarski had 23 saves in net to pick up his 6th win of the playoffs.
The Chiefs will return to action in Game 4 of their series with the Giants Friday night at 7:30pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning with Comcast Hockey Tonight at 7pm.
