WHL Playoffs: Spokane 4 - Vancouver 0
SPOKANE, Wash. - Dustin Tokarski turned away all 22 Vancouver shots and the Spokane Chiefs shutout the Vancouver Giants 4-0 in game five Saturday night in Vancouver, BC.
With the win, Spokane now has a 3-2 series lead and can close out the series with a win in game 6 Monday night in Spokane.
The Chiefs Justin Falk scored his first goal of the playoffs just 1:45 into the first period to give Spokane a 1-0 lead. David Rutherford and Ondrej Roman picked up the assists. Roman then setup Rutherford for his 5th goal of the playoffs, and 4th against Vancouver, at 5:50 of the first to give Spokane a 2-0 lead after one. The Chiefs outshot the Giants 10-5 in the period.
Neither team scored in the second period as each team failed on one power play chance. Spokane outshot Vancouver 13-8 in the second.
Drayson Bowman would give Spokane a 3-0 lead at the 15:53 mark of the third period with his 4th goal of the playoffs. Rutherford and Falk picked up the assists. Tyler Johnson would cap the scoring with a short handed, empty net goal at 18:44. Spokane outshot Vancouver 30-22 on the night.
The Chiefs will return home to Spokane for Game 6 of their series with the Giants Monday night at 7 p.m. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning with Comcast Hockey Tonight at 6:30 p.m.
